Exploring the French connection with Baccarat

When we talk about popular card games, the ones that come to our mind instantly are poker, blackjack, and rummy. However, there is one other game that flies under the radar quite a lot. Not many people know that another game called Baccarat or Baccara is played at casinos, both online and offline. Let’s peek into how this game garnered popularity and how it works

The history of Baccara:

Baccara is a French gambling game that has been popular since the 19th century. It was a common hobby in France during Napoleon Bonaparte and many people could be seen playing Baccara privately. Baccara was initially a three-player game but eventually evolved into a game with two players, the player and the house with the person placing the bet watching from the sidelines. In the modern-day, baccara has started generating an increasing amount of revenue for casinos even in foreign countries such as the United States.

How it works:

Baccarat can simply be explained as a game used to compare cards of different players. There are two players involved in modern Baccaraas mentioned earlier. Each round in Baccara is called a Baccarat coup. The three possible outcomes for the player win, lose, and tie.

In Baccarat all cards from 2-9 are worth what they say I.e. face value. 10, Jack, King, Queen are worth none. An ace card is worth exactly one point. Both players and the banker will draw two cards. The total value is the sum of the two cards. However, if the sum exceeds 9, then the number in the units digit is taken as the total value. For example, the sum of 8 and 3 is 1.
If you are tired of playing the usual games such as Poker, rummy, or blackjack, Baccara could be a welcome change of scenery for you.
